Nathaniel has recently learned his colors! A couple of months ago I got a little frustrated with everything being the color blue, so I gave up trying to teach him for awhile. But while on paternity leave, Jeff expanded his color vocabulary a lot. Here are the colors of the rainbow, Nathaniel-style:
"Wed" = Red
"Wehwoe" = Yellow
"Gween" = Green
"Boo" = Blue
"Puhpull" = Purple
"Bown" = Brown
"Back" = Black
"White" = White
"Siwwer" = Silver
and my personal favorite:
"Oh-Nay" = Orange
It's a colorful world in the York household!

Just Call Me Lois
We have a tradition during the summer on Friday nights of grabbing some food to go and heading to a park or lake for some fun and exercise. Last night we were in the mood for some burgers and onion rings (we burned it off on a long walk later, don't worry) and as we were waiting for our food, the girls in the kitchen were giggling a little. I didn't pay it much notice, as I was distracted by Nathaniel, who was demanding "fries! fries! fries!", but as they handed us our food they somewhat hesitantly asked Jeff if he knew that he looked a lot like Clark Kent!

Nickname Girl
Mary has already accumulated several nicknames in the last few weeks! Here's a sampling of some of them:
M.G.
Mare Mare
Sunshine
Miss Mary
Mary Girl
Little Miss
And of course, the name Nathaniel calls her 80% of the time, "Thomas". All babies are apparently "Thomas" in Nathaniel's world because the first baby he really took notice of was his cousin Thomas Halverson, born two months before Mary. However, we are gradually starting to hear "Meewee" out of him more and more!

A Toddler Conversation
Nathaniel and I were upstairs playing and over the monitor we hear Mary wake up:
Me: "I'm going to go get Mary really quick because she's crying. I'll be right back. You can come downstairs with me, or stay up here. Whatever you want."
Nathaniel looks up at me with REALLY BIG eyes and he says, "Ice cream? Ice cream?"
Note to self: Don't ever say "whatever you want" to a toddler!

Welcome!
Welcome, friends and family, to my blog! I figured I'd better claim a little piece of the internet while I still can! We'll see what this blog ends up being in reality, but right now I'm thinking it will be a place to share my random thoughts, my scrapbook pages, the things going on in my family's life, and pictures of the kids.
To kick off my new blog I'd like to post a picture of Nathaniel and Mary, taken today. Let me say how hard it is to get a good picture of a toddler and a newborn together! But here it is!

And some outtakes, for your enjoyment:
